POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Abstract
The essential, feature of PTSD is the development of characteristic symptoms following a psychologically distressing event that is outside the range of usual human experience(i.e., outside the range of such common experiences as simple bereavement, chronic illness, business losses, and marital conflict). The stressoz-producing this syndrome would be markedly distressing to almost anyone, and is usually experienced with intense fear, terror, and helplessness. The characteristic symptoms involve reexperiencing the traumatic event, avoidance of stimuli associated with the event, or numbing or general responsiveness, and increased arousal. The diagenosis is not made if the disturbance lasts less than one month.
The author experienced the 2 cases of PTSD that were fit for the diagnostic criteria of DSM-¥².
Case 1 received TCA amitriptyline 75-150mg per day, Tegretol 600-800mg per day and propranolol 60-80mg per day.
Case 2 only received TCA amitriptyline 75-150mg per day.
Both cases received the time-limited psychotherapy.
The combination of pharmacotheragy and time-limited psychotherapy is need to management of PTSD with good response. The principle of management of PTSD is early diagnosis, early complete treatment and early returning to occupation and social life.
